The late spring of 1941. A circus in Horley has two elephants for sale. Chief Supply Officer Captain F. Ellam, of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA), is on the phone, trying to buy elephants. Capt Ellam agrees terms and the Ministry of Aircraft Production approves funds for what would be the world's first four-legged airfield tractors.
