Incidents of wild elephants straying into human habitats and destroying crops have been on the rise in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. In 2007-08, 200 cases of crop damage caused by elephants were reported. According to an estimate, crops worth Rs. 7 lakh are damaged every year by elephants in the Dharmapuri forest circle.
